A daring daylight robbery shook Adabraka in Accra on Saturday, November 2, leaving residents stunned.
Four heavily armed and masked men targeted a man sitting in a red Toyota Corolla near the bustling market.
The robbers, firing shots into the air, forced their way into the vehicle, grabbed large sacks believed to contain cash, and made a quick getaway.
According to eyewitness reports, the armed robbers swiftly approached the vehicle, immediately firing shots into the air to scatter the surrounding crowd.
Chaos engulfed the market as shoppers and vendors rushed to safety, seeking cover behind stalls as gunfire cracked through the air.
The robbers quickly stormed the Toyota, snatching large cash-filled sacks. They rapidly loaded the spoils into their getaway car and fled, firing warning shots to keep people at a distance.
An eyewitness recounted, “We deal in gold here, and we heard a loud noise, and we realised it was a sporadic shooting. I can’t even talk, I’m surprised, we hid and locked our gate, but they didn’t come to our end. We heard them saying open the boot and we saw them carrying bags of money from some of the shops. They spent some few minutes.”
Another eyewitness also said, “There are several gold dealer shops here, so one of the owners of the shops had bags containing monies in his Toyota Corolla, immediately he landed, the robbers approached the car and took the money away. This is the second time such an incident has happened. The police came in late, by the time they arrived, the armed robbers had bolted away with the bags of money in their Rav 4. They fired multiple gunshots. They spread some money in the air to distract onlookers’ attention and scare them away.”
Footage of the daring heist, recorded by witnesses and widely shared on social media, reveals the robbers’ lightning-fast, well-orchestrated attack and the widespread panic that gripped the market.
The widespread circulation of robbery footage online has heightened concerns about public safety in the area, pending official confirmation from the Ghana Police Service.
