The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Bawumia, hailed the successes of the NPP government under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership.
He noted that since taking office in 2017, the NPP has made substantial progress across multiple sectors, transforming the country in meaningful ways.
At a media engagement on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia was questioned about apologizing for unmet promises, but he countered by emphasizing the numerous successes of the incumbent government, implying that an apology was unnecessary.
He expressed great pride in the current government’s accomplishments, particularly when juxtaposed with the record of the previous administration.
“When you look at how we are changing Ghana, and you look at the performance of the economy before we came into office, we are doing much better across virtually every sector than the man who wants to come back. So I am very proud of my record. I am very proud of it,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia, showcased the government’s numerous achievements that have propelled Ghana towards modernization and economic growth, highlighting several historic firsts.
These include the implementation of a national ID system and the issuance of national IDs and birth certificates to all newborns, a move that has never been done before in Ghana’s history.
He also emphasized the removal of the guarantor requirement for student loans, making higher education more accessible to all.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia noted that it was under the NPP government that Ghana now boasts a comprehensive digital address system, another first for the country.
“We’ve struggled with this for 60 years; it’s only under our government and with my initiative that we have a comprehensive digital address system,” he noted.
He emphasized that these achievements demonstrate the NPP government’s commitment to progress and development.
Dr. Bawumia unveiled future plans to introduce a locally developed ride-hailing platform, similar to Uber, specifically designed for traditional taxis, with the goal of empowering local operators and retaining revenue within the Ghanaian economy.
“The work has been virtually completed, and we will outdoor it very, very soon,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia maintained that the NPP’s achievements and future prospects outdo those of former President Mahama and the NDC, demonstrating a significant difference in the parties’ performance and aspirations.
