The event, held on the theme “Our Tradition, Our Heritage,” attracted members of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and key figures of the party.
Dr. Bawumia noted that the UGCC played a pivotal role in Ghana’s political history, laying the foundation for independence.
“Today, we celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), a pivotal moment in the nation’s political history that laid the foundation for the independence,” he said.
He commended the unwavering dedication and relentless efforts of the party’s founders, whose legacy and principles guided the party throughout its journey.
“Their tireless efforts and demands for political reforms led to the 1948 riots, born out of the people’s quest for self-rule,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
He opined that the UGCC laid the groundwork for Ghana’s independence on March 6, 1957, and has been the cornerstone of political development in the country’s history.

“I am proud to say that it was the antecedent party of the UGCC, which is the NPP which repealed the obnoxious Criminal Libel law when we came to Government in 2001,” he stated.
He added that the party has achieved the founding intention of the UGCC to create a free market economy in which the industry of man is rewarded based on hard work.
