The Finance Minister, Mohammed Amin Adam, has expressed pride and satisfaction with Ghana’s impressive performance in recent international sports competitions.
Addressing Parliament, the Minister highlighted the country’s significant progress in enhancing sports infrastructure, talent development, and providing resources for athletes to excel.
“Ghana successfully hosted the 13th African Games from 4th to 23rd March 2024 in Accra at the new international standard multi-complex sports facility at Borteyman, and the newly commissioned University of Ghana Sports Stadium,” Minister Adam said.
“We placed sixth on the medals table with a total of 69 medals: 19 gold, 29 silver, and 21 bronze. This is Ghana’s best performance at an international multi-sport event, so far.” He added.
The Minister also noted that the Black Challenge of Ghana participated and won the trophy in the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations tournament hosted and organised in Egypt.
The successful hosting of the African Games and the impressive performance of Ghana’s athletes demonstrate the country’s growing prowess in various sports disciplines.
Ghana’s sports sector is experiencing a significant boom, with the government’s commitment to sports development expected to yield even more impressive results in the years to come.
