Ghana head coach Otto Addo has taken responsibility for his team’s 1-0 defeat to Angola in their AFCON 2025 qualifier, refusing to blame the poor condition of the Baba Yara Stadium pitch for the loss.
Despite acknowledging that the pitch was not in good shape, Addo stated, “I don’t want to blame the loss on the pitch… We simply have to do better.”
He drew parallels with their previous match against Central African Republic, where they won despite poor pitch conditions.
Addo expressed optimism about Ghana’s prospects in the remaining group matches, citing the second half of the Angola game as a confidence booster.
“The good thing is that it’s all in our hands, as we still have to face all the teams in the group,” he said.
The Black Stars will look to regroup and recover from the disappointing result as they face Niger on Monday in Morocco. With their 24-year unbeaten record at the Baba Yara Stadium shattered, Ghana must now focus on getting their qualification campaign back on track.
Addo’s refusal to blame external factors and emphasis on self-improvement suggests a positive mindset within the team.
As they prepare for their next fixture, Ghana will be determined to prove that they can overcome adversity and achieve their AFCON qualification goals.
