The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, continued his campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region, stopping in the Amasaman Constituency, where he cautioned voters against re-electing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December polls.
Mahama accused the NPP of deceiving Ghanaians on two previous occasions and warned voters not to be fooled again, emphasizing that the party’s economic mismanagement, evident in soaring inflation and fuel prices, has caused lasting damage that will take years to rectify.
“Today when there is hardship in the land; they are telling us that our lives are better…When you are hungry, you can feel it; nobody can’t come and convince you that you are not hungry.”
“…Elections are about choices, that is why we make a choice every four years…If you make a mistake in making that choice, the results will live with you for the next four years, and even beyond,” he stated.
At a rally in Amasaman, Mahama encouraged voters to use their ballots to oust the ruling NPP, dismissing claims that the party is a superior economic manager, and instead emphasizing the need for change due to their poor economic performance.
“They deceived us once before and got away with it; they deceived us twice and got away with it, they will not deceive us a third time…Not at all. I know Ghanaians will show them [NPP] red card on December 7.”
“NDC will come back, and anybody who doubts it should mark my words; NDC will win the elections on December 7, 2024,” the flag bearer said.
Barring his return to the presidency, Mahama unveiled plans to spur industrial growth in Accra, specifically in Amasaman, by decentralizing factories beyond Tema, the traditional hub of industrial activity.
He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the NDC’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, aimed at addressing Ghana’s unemployment challenges by creating job opportunities in local communities through the establishment of new factories.
“When anyone wants to build a factory, they go to Tema. When the NDC comes into office we will properly structure this place so when anyone wants to build a factory, they could come to this stretch and put one up.
“We will designate this place from Amasaman to Suhum as an industrial zone. Anyone who wants to build a factory should come and establish it here. When they come and build here, those factories will be registered under the 24-hour economy policy,” Mr Mahama assured.
