In a thrilling friendly at SoFi Stadium on July 28, 2024, Arsenal staged a comeback to defeat Manchester United 2-1.
Rasmus Hojlund put United ahead in the 9th minute, but Gabriel Jesus equalized for Arsenal in the 25th minute with a clinical finish. The score remained level until Gabriel Martinelli’s stunning individual effort in the 80th minute sealed the win for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s starting lineup featured Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Jesus, while Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel were introduced off the bench in the second half.
Although Manchester United won the subsequent penalty shootout 4-3, Arsenal’s comeback win was the main event. This victory marks a positive step in Arsenal’s pre-season preparations, which continue with a match against Liverpool on July 31 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Arsenal’s pre-season schedule also includes matches against Bayer Leverkusen on August 7 at Emirates Stadium and Lyon on August 11, as part of the Emirates Cup. These fixtures will provide further opportunities for Mikel Arteta’s side to build momentum ahead of the new season.
