Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, has added 21-year-old midfielder Forson Amankwah to their roster for the upcoming AFCON qualifying matches against Angola and Niger, a late but welcome inclusion for the young player.
Forson Amankwah, a 21-year-old midfielder for Norwich City, was surprisingly omitted from the initial 23-man Black Stars squad announced by head coach Otto Addo last Thursday, but has since received a late call-up.
Head coach Otto Addo had previously suggested that Forson Amankwah’s exclusion from the initial squad was not a definitive decision, stating that he would be placed on standby and could potentially be called up in the future, leaving the door open for his late inclusion.
“Our decision was that he will be on standby this time, but maybe he will come next time.”
Forson Amankwah has made a speedy recovery from a shoulder injury and has been called up to the Black Stars squad for the AFCON qualifiers
He suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder during Norwich’s Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace but was back in action on Saturday, playing 45 minutes in their 1-0 win over Coventry City .
His quick recovery is a testament to his strength and dedication, and it’s no surprise that he’s been called up to the national team for the second time.
He has hit the ground running at Norwich City, providing two assists in his first six games, making a promising start to his Carrow Road career.
This is his second call-up to the national team, following his debut in March for friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda.
He’s now set to join the Black Stars camp in Accra, where the team is already gearing up for the upcoming qualifiers.
The Ghana national team will head to Kumasi on Tuesday to finalize their preparations for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers .
They’ll face Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 5th, and then travel to Morocco to play Niger on September 9th.
