Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress John Dramani Mahama has pledged to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Ho-Aflao road if elected, citing its critical role in facilitating trade and economic growth between Ghana’s Volta Region and neighboring Togo.
He highlighted the road’s deteriorated state and its significance as a key economic corridor connecting Ho, the regional capital, to Togo.
During his visit to the Agortime-Ziope constituency in Kpetoe, former President John Mahama emphasized the importance of rebuilding the Ho-Aflao road, highlighting its potential to stimulate economic growth and facilitate trade between Ghana and Togo.
He also addressed various pressing issues, particularly those affecting young people, as part of his four-day tour of the Volta Region. Mahama’s remarks underscored the need for infrastructure development and youth empowerment to drive national progress.
Mr. Mahama noted that the 67% cost burden on parents for vocational training has led to a surge in interest among youth, highlighting the need for support.
He stressed the importance of the National Apprenticeship Programme in empowering these young individuals.
Additionally, he announced plans to establish a Women’s Development Bank, which will offer affordable loans to women, enabling them to grow their businesses and trading endeavors, thereby promoting women’s economic empowerment.
Mr. Mahama vowed to improve the Free SHS program by decentralizing the feeding system, enabling local procurement of food from farmers, ensuring a consistent food supply for students. He also promised to complete abandoned school projects and eliminate the double-track system.
Concluding his address, Mahama urged the people of Agortime-Ziope and the Volta Region to support the NDC in the 2024 elections, promising a decisive win that would bring about significant development and progress, and fulfilling his vision for a better future.
