The Ministry of Health has launched an investigation into the disappearance of medical supplies and unaccounted payments, following an audit by the Auditor General.
According to the audit, 20,000 packs of male condoms and 120,000 vials of Depo-Provera, valued at GH¢1,336,000.00, were issued to a driver, Mr. Joe Gyaten, for delivery to the Regional Medical Stores in the Eastern Region. However, the items were never delivered and remain unaccounted for.
The audit also uncovered five unaccounted payments totaling GH¢71,760.00 between March 2022 and July 2022, made by the Financial Controller. These payments were not properly documented, raising concerns about financial mismanagement.
The Ministry has referred the matter to the Health Intelligence Unit and the Criminal Investigations Department for investigation. The probe aims to identify those responsible for the missing supplies and unaccounted payments.
