West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus has revealed the significance of celebrating his goal against Brighton by sitting on a traditionally crafted elephant stool.
Mohammed Kudus, the West Ham midfielder, has popularized the iconic “take a seat” goal celebration, which has been adopted by several other players.
Following his equalizing goal against Brighton at the London Olympic Stadium on Saturday, Mohammed Kudus unveiled a unique twist on his signature celebration, sitting on a customized elephant stool.
Kudus revealed that the inspiration behind the elephant stool celebration was to pay tribute to his homeland, Ghana, and do something distinctive to represent his country.
“The stool is from Ghana,” he said after the game. “With my celebration on the boards, a lot of people are copying it now so I had to do something to standout and showcase Ghana,” he added.
“The elephant is a symbol of traditional authority back home in Ghana.”
Following a five-game suspension, Mohammed Kudus has made a strong return, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 12 Premier League appearances this season.
