The Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has cast doubt on the possibility of any candidate or political party securing more than 52% of the votes in the upcoming general elections.
Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi’s remarks follow a prediction by Fitch Solutions, a global research and data company, that John Mahama and the NDC will win the December 2024 general elections
According to Fitch Solutions’ mid-year review for Sub-Saharan Africa, the current state of the economy will play a significant role in shaping voters’ decisions in the December 7 election.
Fitch Solutions’ Associate Director, Mike Kruiniger, said “We believe that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has a stronger chance of winning the upcoming general elections compared to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).”
He added that, “Recent polls consistently place the NDC ahead with the most recent survey showing 54% of respondents favouring the NDC.”
Dr. Adomako Kissi challenged Fitch Solutions’ forecast on Channel One TV’s ‘The Big Issue’, casting doubt on the prediction and suggesting it’s unlikely for either the NDC or NPP to secure a majority vote exceeding 52%.
“I am a bit weary about their results because I am rather of the opinion that December 7 for any strong party be it the NDC or the NPP to go beyond 52% will not be easy. That is my opinion especially because of the trends worldwide.
“Looking at the trend of voters and their sophistication at this point, for anybody to pronounce a 54% win puts me in doubt,” he stated.
He ended by saying, “For the NPP I must say that we will not take the reviews for granted. The appropriate thing for us to do is keep at what we are doing and to demonstrate how the digital economy is still above the economy.”
