North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has donated a vast array of medical equipment worth $1.2 million to the Mepe Health Centre.
The donation, made in collaboration with SOS International, includes essential medical tools such as anesthesia machines, ultrasound, and infant incubators.
Others included CPAP, labour/delivery beds, OR lights, suction machines, patient monitors, oxygen systems, pulse oximeters, surgery tables, vaccine refrigerators, wheelchairs, sphygmomanometers, and many other items.
Ablakwa presented the equipment at a ceremony in Mepe, Volta Region, and expressed gratitude to his partners.
The donation comes as a relief to the community, which was affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage in 2023.
The spillage, caused by heavy rainfall and a rapid rise in water levels, resulted in flooding in several districts, including North, South, and Central Tongu, as well as Ada East.
The new medical facility, built by Citi FM with assistance from the Mines Chamber, will benefit from the donated equipment, enhancing healthcare services for the affected communities.
“It is my vision to ensure that the Mepe Health Centre is expanded and upgraded into a modern hospital by next year,” Mr Ablakwa stated.
