The 87th Ada Asafotufiami festival, a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the Ada people, was transformed into a political campaign ground by some Members of Parliament (MPs) in attendance.
Despite the festival’s theme of “Upholding the Discipline of Our Forebears, Sustainable Development, and Unity of Others,” some MPs seized the opportunity to promote their political agendas, much to the dismay of festival organizers and attendees.
The MPs, who were invited as guests to the festival, took to the stage to deliver politically charged speeches and announcing their achievements for the communities ,deviating from the festival’s cultural focus.
Festival organizers expressed disappointment at the MPs’ actions, stating that the event was meant to be a celebration of Ada’s cultural heritage, not a political rally.
“We invited the MPs to join us in celebrating our culture, not to campaign,” said a festival organizer. “Their actions were inappropriate and disrespectful to the festival’s theme and purpose.”
The incident has sparked debate about the role of politics in cultural events, with some arguing that MPs should respect the boundaries of such celebrations.
The 87th Ada Asafotufiami festival was otherwise a successful event, showcasing the rich cultural traditions of the Ada people and promoting unity among community members.
