President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been honored with an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) for his commitment to education and healthcare development in Ghana.
The President received the award at a special congregation held at the commissioning of the second phase development of the University’s main campus in Ho, a $60 million project facilitated by the President.
In his acceptance speech, President Akufo-Addo said, “This latest honour is not just a personal achievement but the collective efforts of achievements of my administration and the efforts of every Ghanaian who supported the Free SHS.”
He emphasized his administration’s strong commitment to STEM education and highlighted the importance of the University’s expansion in producing more healthcare professionals.
“I will continue to engage the highest interest of the University,” he assured, and donated ten laptops and desktop computers to support the University Administration.
Justice Mr Victor Jones Mawulorm Dotse, Chairman of the University Governing Council, praised the President’s bond with the University, saying, “UHAS is determined to be a star in health education and your constant interest in us gives us the zeal to pursue this great vision.”
Professor Lydia Aziato, the Vice Chancellor, noted that the campus expansion project would facilitate the admission of over 2,000 more students, while Mrs Yaa Opuni Amankwa, the Registrar, highlighted the President’s achievements in making science education more accessible to Ghanaian families.
The ceremony was attended by former heads of the University, traditional leaders, and dignitaries, who witnessed the President being adorned with a graduating gown and presented with a certificate and citation.
The commissioned campus development includes a lecture hall complex for 2,500 students, the UHAS School of Nursing and Midwifery, and the central administration block of the University.
