President John Dramani Mahama has lambasted the previous administration’s handling of the Agenda 111 project, a flagship initiative aimed at constructing 111 hospitals across Ghana.
During his first State of the Nation address on the floor of parliament, President Mahama disclosed that despite a staggering $400 million already disbursed, not a single hospital is operational.
“There is no dedicated funding source for this gargantuan project,” President Mahama stated. “For the record, as I speak, not a single Agenda 111 hospital is operational in any part of Ghana. I challenge you, not one is operational.”
The President’s words were laced with incredulity as he highlighted the sheer scale of resources already committed to the project.
“It is worth disclosing that 400 million US Dollars has already been disbursed under the Agenda 111 project. At a rate of approximately 80 million dollars per hospital, this US $400 million spent could have completed and made operational at least 22 of those hospitals.”
President Mahama’s address marked his first major speech since being elected in the 2024 general election.
His administration has pledged to prioritize transparency and accountability, and the Agenda 111 project’s lack of progress is likely to be a key area of focus.
